Replace MBR Windows 7

If your Master Boot Record becomes corrupted or infected with a virus/malware you will need to replace it...

This is not as hard as it sounds.

You will need to have your WIndows 7 DVD install disk or the ability to be able to boot to a repair partition, which is usually accessed by hitting "F8" as your computer begins to boot. There will be an option in the menu to "Repair your computer" or something similar sounding.

If using the DVD, you need to have your optical drive set to a higher boot priority than your hard drive, which will entail going into the BIOS to check and set. So that when the DVD is inserted and the PC rebooted, it will look to it first and give you the option to boot from it by pressing any key.

When the Windows 7 screen appears, you select your language, time/currency format and keyboard type. Click "Next" It goes to the next screen.
Ignore the "Install now" button and look to the lower left corner, there will be a "Repair your computer" link which when clicked, takes you to the "system recovery options"
It will look for previous Windows installations and once it finds yours, click it to highlight and then click "Next"
You then see a window with various options, click "Command Prompt"
A new window opens which is black with white writing within
To write a new MBR, type "bootsect /nt60 SYS /mbr" (without the quotation marks) then press "enter"

You should then see some text which says
Successfully updated NTFS filesystem bootcode
Successfully updated disk bootcode
Bootcode was successfully updated on all targeted volumes

Now type "exit" (again without the quotes) and the black window will close
Then click either "Shut down" or "Restart"
You should now be able to boot into Windows
It ain't the years honey, it's the mileage.
